Unpackaged Movement

Unpackaged Movement

I don’t know about you, but it always amazes me every week how much rubbish a family can generate. Everything seems to be packed inside a pack, which is in another pack, which they put in a box, then inside another box to get it to the shop, which was on a pallet wrapped with cling wrap to keep it all together! It's exhausting!

It always excites me when I see that some communities have the options of the unpackaged movement. Remember all of those coffee jars or jam jars we don’t know what to do with? Well, keep them and take them to these amazing stores that are on many people's doorsteps.

I am lucky enough to work with a couple of these amazing stores and I can’t wait to tell you about them!

Tammy from Unpackaged in Mount Gambier, has been one of my biggest supporters right from the get go. Tammy’s shop is such a pinup example of how its possible to shop without packaging. She has everything from health food, confectionary and cake decorating, pantry staples but then there is cleaning products and personal care items as well!

The shop is just so cool to be in. I’m a huge fan of the concreate floor and industrial look – as this is the style we had in our café. Then there are rows of tubs full of surprises, but its also got things that if you weren’t sure how to use them, there are recipe cards for you to take home and try the product. My personal favourite is the ready to make brownie mix where you grab the recipe card, scoop the dry mix and it tells you what to add and how to cook it – genius!!

When we send our granola down to Tammy, we put it in big tubs that just go round and round, so there is literally NO packaging involved from leaving my kitchen to Tammy’s tubs. And I love that!

So, if you live in Mount Gambier, live close by or are passing through, call in and see Tammy and her team at Unpackaged. You won’t regret it!

Our most recent stockist that also lives by the unpackaged philosophy is Lindsey from The Bulk Cellar in Maslin Beach, south of Adelaide, and we are thrilled to have them on board. We are so excited that this movement is spreading far and wide across many communities.

At The Bulk Cellar you can either go into their amazing store and browse their range, or if you are short on time, however, you want to do your part with waste control, you can order online and collect it Mondays - Fridays 8.30am - 5.30pm. The other amazing service from these guys is they will deliver it to your door on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Maslin Beach and the surrounding suburbs. The catch? You only have to order a minimum of $20 – easy!

From Lindsey and the team you can get anything from pantry supplies, cleaning, bathroom, pets, personal care, oils, sweets, tea, coffee – oh the list is endless! Don’t forget to also look at their tips and tricks page. My personal favourite is making Christmas crackers, what a great activity with the kids at the start of the holidays.
